About John
John Mikowychok is a southeastern Pennsylvania keyboardist and vocalist performing at private events, cocktail parties and holiday gatherings. He can perform solo piano or piano with voice. A performer for over 40 years in wedding bands, funk groups, and cocktail-hour ensembles, John understands the nuance of great live music in fine-dining and special-event settings, including subtlety, timing and how to work a crowd or simply blend into the ambience. John is versatile, prepared and professional.
Keys
Though he loves to play a well-tuned acoustic piano, John can provide a digital piano set-up. Depending on your space and the type of event, he can recommend the best configuration.
Voice
John is a tenor, with natural jazz and blues style. Performing in a wedding cover band for years, he is also able to convincingly mimic the timbre of the original artist.
Influences
John's playing is influenced by jazz, funk, classic rock, and new-age piano. He is inspired by the stylings of George Duke, Russell Ferrante (Yellowjackets), Chick Corea, and Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group).
About Laura
A professional singer and John's daughter, Laura has been performing since the age of 6 when she studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music. She has spent her entire life performing, from soloist to choral ensemble member and even accomplished public speaker. A church cantor, wedding musician, and cast member in multiple community musicals, Laura is proud to join her father in playing classic songs that showcase the voice she inherited from her grandmother.
Voice
Laura is a soprano, with natural operatic vocal style. Her voice is suited well to Broadway, classical opera, jazz and Motown.
Influences
Laura is influenced by the style of great performers like Sarah Brightman and Barbra Streisand, and is inspired to nuance by jazz voices like Ella Fitzgerald and Natalie Cole. She gravitates towards older music of the '20s through '70s.
Repertoire
John and Laura specialize in classic hits of the 1920s through '40s, with a mixture of contemporary light pop and jazz from the '50s to '70s. For holiday gatherings, they can play a mix of secular and sacred music as the party host desires. Songs can be performed with or without vocals.
